Posted - 08/11/2012 : 09:27:27 I have another little problem with Dakota, my yearling corn, he has just moved into his new viv and really really likes to climb. The viv has a heat lamp and I have a guard but he can get through the gaps so I don't turn it on anymore as don't want him to get burnt, he also has a light we usually tur on during the day and i can't find a guard for it :( he likes to climb on his vines and get ontop of the other light and I don't want that light to hurt him even though its not a heat lamp it still gets rather warm, what cani do to solve both these issues?
Thank you

Lmao Woooops! [Please Send all Thank you letters to Auld Baldy, Folks!] And Yes "Thank You!", you were the person who recommended to me. Unfortunately it took until I got electrocuted rewiring a bulb until I come across your post.
I think I might write a letter to Ikea, as your powering their sales on these things. You should be rewarded!
Cheeeeers!

Thank you soo much, may have to take a trip to ikea :)
Here's the product your looking for http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/90192071/
Really good product. Does not emit any heat so even if snake decides to have a look no burns.
Also contains everything you'll need to secure it inside your viv.
Good Luck |

Posted - 11/11/2012 : 10:37:35 You could always get a heat mat and some LED lights from Ikea. Saves the worry of him getting burnt and you could have a setup that looks like this.
Otherwise go to your local garden centre they always have different size wire. I'd avoid BnQ and places like that as they cost more.
Good Luck

Posted - 08/11/2012 : 10:57:47 Awesome I only kept it in as it came on the viv ( got it off ebay as it was only 31 pounds with hides, bowels and thermostat) what can I use to fill the holes the light comes through ?
And thanks ill start modifying my light guard now :) so little Dakota is safe to have his heat lamp without getting hurt :) |

Posted - 08/11/2012 : 10:52:55 We have recently fitted one of these in our hognoses viv http://www.surreypetsupplies.co.uk/prorep-vivarium-heat-guard-square.html They have pretty small holes. Also have one of these for the royal http://www.reptileforums.co.uk/forums/equipment-classifieds/508088-opening-guards-all-sizes-various.html I have to say these are the best guards I have ever seen. Very strong and very very small holes there is no way a young corn could fit through these holes. Are you using a statted heat mat? If you are you could just fit some LEDs to give light they give off no heat so do not need guarding. |

Posted - 08/11/2012 : 10:50:54 I only use bulbs for my cresties. And hero my hoggie is having a day/ cycle with a lamp that is out side his viv. I have glass top vivs so have never needed lamps. X |

Posted - 08/11/2012 : 10:47:25 I assume the 'other' light is a UVB light strip. Cornsnakes don't need them so it could just be taken out. The long bulb just pulls out of the end sockets. As long as you make sure there are no sharp ends you could add extra wire to your guard to stop the snake getting inside. Little devils are very good at getting in light guards when they're small! |

Posted - 08/11/2012 : 10:30:34 Awwh thank you for the suggestions, I was wondering if using the one I have already and making the gaps smaller by using some wire or something so he can no longer fit through it? And ill try get a picture of his other light (the one he gets on top of and curls up on) because I don't want him to get burnt or anything :( and see what you think should be done with the light because I have no clue. |

Posted - 08/11/2012 : 10:10:32 I would take any bulb out he could construct and smash. Buy a different guard they are not all the same. Some a more mesh like. eBay item 271088905857 |
