Been having some problems with Orion's temps they were fine until yesterday when i checked and the warm end was 30 degrees so i turned his stat down slightly and checked the temp probe and stat probe hadn't been moved, which they hadnt Now today doesn't matter how much i turn up the stat i cant get the temp over 25?? Well today is his feeding day and as you can imagine im a little concerned about feeding him.
I was wandering if its because the Rub is slightly off the ground my a few mm but he has been in this rub for about a month and had no problem previously?
His big boy viv is assembled and ready to go i was just waiting to save up to get him a bigger heat mat but do you think moving him into the viv might help control the temperature?
So annoying as he has just come out of blue and im waiting for him the shed any day now so don't want him to get stressed out by this! |

Problem now sorted Orion has moved into his viv a little earlier than expected but i went and brought him a new stat and bigger mat, id rather be safe than sorry so just replaced the whole lot and he is nice and settled and temps are perfect so he can be fed with Star tomorrow.

I'd say he'll be fine...
I have a chunk of insulation under one of my mats (bought the low temp one accidentally) for essentially the same reason.. the draft under the tank was lowering temps.
I'm using a piece of 'reflectix' air gaped and taped under the tank, seems to do the trick |

Sorry it wasn't on the floor it was on a low level book case, i just couldn't get the temperatures in the rub correct so i have moved him into his viv where the temps seem to be stabilizing at 28 but im going to keep a very close eye on him and i have sorted some money so i can go get him a bigger mat tomorrow and i think i may even get him a new thermostat so i don't worry!

Right i have taken him off the heat mat and have stat and thermometer on it and its gone straight up to 31 so i think its the fact the box is slightly raised off the floor so next question is will he be ok in an LX36 with a 6x11 heat mat until i get paid in about a week and can get him a bigger one, his hide fits very comfortably on the heat mat so he can hide and be at the correct temperature if he wants ? |

Lol was thinking should i be testing/playing with temps when he is using it lol well i just took him off the mat and go everything testing it and its currently on 26.6...so ill wait and see |

So do you think i should move him into his new viv and will he be ok for a week or so until i can get him a bigger heat mat? he has a 7x11 i think at the moment? |

Thermometers start getting funny when their batteries get on the low side too, might be worth switching them up just in case |

I suggest trying the stat with another mat and run two thermometers an see how that goes. I would test it all whilst the snake is in the viv tho x |

Also i took the thermostat probe off the heat mat and just put the thermometer on it and the temp started to increase so don't think it is my thermometers :s |

Arghh now im managing to hit 26.2 and then my stat turns off but my thermostat is set the highest it can go at 35??? |
