Hey, another question on the forum about feeding (yaaay)
This isn't any other question I guess. I've had Terri for just short of 6 months now and for the first while she wouldn't eat unless we opened her mouth carefully with some rubber on the end of a kirby which I did not like doing at all but we were advised by the breeder and a couple of other keepers that we may have to do it. So we did it for a while and then it became normal for my GF to hold Terri and prise her mouth open with the pinky. My GF then had to go to London to work and everytime I tried to feed her she wasn't having any of it. So I got my tub with airholes, placed the snake and the pinky in the tub and left for an hour or two inside the viv, half on heatmat half off. She was slow at first but she got there. Now that's the only way we can get her to feed, she needs to be in the tub, she won't strike and she always tries to get away when the pinky is out on the tongs. Is this natural for her to only eat when placed in the tub? She won't even strike at it in there, its placed next to her, she has a sniff around then eats away. Do I have a silly snake? Lol. It doesn't bother me because at least she's eating, but I do find it a bit wierd. (Also, just moved her onto the largest size pinky before fuzzies, SUCCESS :D such a happy parent) |

Don't worry,she's only young, I know how much of a worry this can be as it happened to me a few years ago! In time she'll be easier to feed:-) |

Maybe try to increase the size of the feeding tub? If she feels safe eating in a slightly bigger tub, increase the size of the tub again, etc... |

That's exactly how Ruby feeds  , quick sniff then gets straight on to the old jaw dislocation thing  |

thats what I was thinking. At least shes not the only one lol.
I'm happy she's eating, and on her own makes it even better :)
She'll be on fuzzies in no time. :P lol |

As long as she's eating on her own it's good! All my snakes eat in a rub and I prefer it that way. I can see exactly what they've eaten and there's no risk of ingesting substrate. Not all snakes will strike so don't worry about that. Just continue being a proud parent that she's eating of her own will!!! |

I wouldn't worry too much how she eats, as long as she eats - you got her from not feeding on her own to feeding by herself - that's a success! :-)
