I don't know when he shed but found an amazing skin...was a little worried as couldn't find head skin but ive checked him over and cant see anything on his head and his eyes look lovely and clear. He's just over a year but I thinl last owner was under feeding him so he's going through a growth spurt. He is my gorgey boy xx |

Posted - 07/10/2012 : 12:04:57 I have already made a damp hide, However Rosie has not been out of her warm hide, so if she sheds ok then I will leave it next time. However, I am pleased to say she did eat the pinkie left outside her hide yesterday. |

Posted - 06/10/2012 : 21:59:37 Charles, if it's her 1st shed with you then I certainly wouldn't dash out and get moss yet - she may not need it at all. Corno's first shed with us wasn't great, with some retianed tail tip, so I got some moss the nxt time, used a couple of times then 3rd time hadn't realised she was in blue until she shed perfectly and she's been fine ever since. Ember I have never needed a damp hide for. I'd wait and see if she needs help or not. :)
Hazelnut as above, shedding every 4 weeks is common at a young age, Corno is a yearling now and is still shedding every 4-5 weeks. |

Posted - 05/10/2012 : 09:02:54 @ Charles: The first shed is always very exciting - I was so nervous with Baziliska, I thought something was wrong with her, she was so inactive. One day I lifted her hide to ( to check she was ok ) and she just laid there, didn't even move, in a strange, loose coils, head laid on side, didn't react when I touched her - I thought he was dead! Needles to say, she was perfectly ok, has had 11 sheds with me so far and working on number 12 atm!
@ Hazelnut: There isn't really average time - it depends how fast they're growing. I find both mine shed more often in summer than winter ( I'll see if it repeats itself this year ). Hatchlings can shed roughly once a month to 6, even 8 weeks. Adults maybe 2 -4 times a year... I think mine tried to hibernate last winter. The temperatures stayed the same, but she became inactive, buried herself in substrate ( even when not in shed ) and deliberately stayed in the coldest part of her viv... the shedding frequency really slowed down - she shed every 4 weeks in summer, then in winter, it was every 2 and a half months, and picked up again in spring. I haven't lowered the temperature, but she is in natural daylight, so would have noticed the days shortening.
Sorry for long post , bit over enthusiastic here... |

Posted - 02/10/2012 : 20:52:18 Is Arthur young, they are constantly growing when they are younger so need to shed more often and if he has done his scales any damage he will shed more while it is repairing itself
Glad he is doing well tho and your enjoying him |
