Posted - 05/10/2012 : 20:10:58 It was me :-). I don't use very very hot water, only one I can just keep hand in, ( from the tap ) , as I'm worried I'd cook it if it was warmer , and by the time I take the mouse out, it's only luke warm. What temperature would be safe to go up to? I wouldn't want to feed it cooked, I guess if I can still keep my hand in, it should be ok? |

Posted - 05/10/2012 : 17:25:09 I don't use very hot water, warm i'd say. I can hold my hand in the water comfortably. You say leave overnight in a tub....i feed at night time, so could i leave it from say 7am and feed around 9pm the same night? |

Posted - 05/10/2012 : 17:00:45 Please don't defrost using very hot water. You will end up poaching the mouse. Even slightly 'cooked' meat is not good for snakes.
I just leave a bunch of mice and a rat in a tub with a lid and a sheet of kitchen roll inside. Either leave overnight or take out in the morning and leave beside the vivs for an evening feed session.
As long as the mouse is 'floppy' and not cold to the touch it will be fine. |

Posted - 05/10/2012 : 16:28:53 I defrost in water, too, just thought the squelching could have also been some water somewhere on the mouse...I use very warm water, so warm, you can only just keep your hand in it. It's faster, so my guess is there's no time for the bacteria in he mouse to get multiplying again. Medium mouse is fully defrosted and warm in about 15 - 17 mins. :-)

I see, i'm only used to feeding pinkies and hadn't heard that, must be louder with the large mice haha!
It's true, I've never heard it with pinkies or Rat pups either. But the larger Mice and Rats make yucky noises! lol |

Posted - 26/09/2012 : 10:12:09 I'd say it looks like the large is fine for him, although I'm sure the odd jumbo wouldn't hurt him you don't want an obese Corn! LOL
The squelching is perfectly normal, especially if you defrost in water. My Royals are the worst for that for some reason, the squelch/suck noise from them is pretty gross! haha! |

Posted - 25/09/2012 : 22:01:49 yeah starts on the 9th spot. the guy I got him front said he's had jumbos before but I think I'd b terrified incase anything went wrong! I have another 2 large mice left before I order more, so will see how he gets on with them. I mean I doubt anything would go wrong. sure if it was too big for him he wouldn't attempt it? |

Posted - 25/09/2012 : 21:58:05 I have to say, I struggled to see the bump at first. Is that it on his 9th motley spot? |

Posted - 25/09/2012 : 21:47:31 yeah probably. I'll be keeping him on large! yeah defrost in water. would it be better to just leave out at room temp to defrost? and if so how long for? I struggle to defrost chicken for myself so wouldn't want get it wrong lol! |

Posted - 25/09/2012 : 21:34:57 I had a mouse ( defrosted, of course ) making a squeaking sound as Bazilishka ate it - it was a bit disconcerting...I think it maybe was just an air left inside the mouse, then squeezed out. I think some squelching is normal. Do you defrost in the water? Size looks ok to me... |

Posted - 25/09/2012 : 21:17:39 I noticed click noises when mine feeds, she's on smalls. I put it down to bones breaking and the snake squashing/crushing it's prey. In sure it's nothing to worry about. |

Posted - 25/09/2012 : 21:10:15 aw good. I don't think I could go through that with a mouse any bigger! I think this one was slightly bigger than last week's, although both 'large' size. thanks. any ideas about the squelchy noise? I assume this just happens normally |

Posted - 25/09/2012 : 21:08:32 If there is still a bump then that size is fine. |
