Hello,

Im currently using aspen shavings, but have read that I will have to feed the corn elsewhere to prevent him consuming shavings mistakenly.

I was thinking about trying some alternative substrate, are there any recommendations?

Also would it be safe to grow a patch of turf and use that ? (mind this may be bad idea when it comes to cleaning)

Ideas really appreciated

I use kitchen towel, a decent quality one so it's nice and comfy for the snake and it soaks up any mess nicely! Doesn't look too bad if you have lots of decor in there

Thank you for all the advice. I will try the kitchen roll for now then may think about the reptile carpet. Cheers

I have started using reptile carpet and love it, you get two bits so can clean one while using the other one. It means you can feed in your viv without worry. The only down side I can see so far is your snake can't burrow, although mine does go under it sometimes.

I have aspen in mine and i feed in their vivs. I put sone kitchen roll in the viv and coax snakies onto the paper to stop them ingesting any aspen

You could use chips, or just put down kitchen roll on top of aspen when feeding

There are substrates that you can use like beech chips which are bigger so less chance of ingestion if you are going to feed in the viv or you can put some kitchen roll in the viv and try to feed on that (i tried this method last feed with one or mine and she dragged it straight off though the aspen into her hide). Or just feed in a separate container. Lots of keepers do it different ways it is just down to personal preference.
