Posted - 31/08/2012 : 21:06:07 Managed to get hold of a camera and just wanted to get peoples opinions if this is all ok.
On the floor at the mo but should be getting a table soon.
Close up of heated area, I have probe under hide at the moment tied to thermometer and just wanna check this is alright, and yes I should have got the smaller heat mat .
The hole for the probe actually looks bigger here but I'm pretty sure from close looks it's safe, also have thermometer wires going through lids which seem secure enough to me unless the snake has been eating spinach lol.
And just a couple more closeups including the blue hide with added chimney

Posted - 01/09/2012 : 09:33:24 @ Scaly & Mike - I was thinking about that but because of that plastic space inbetween that stays cool I'd probably have to move it quite a bit till some of the other mat gets underneath. The care sheet does say it can cover between a third and a half of the total length so would be ok as long as it doesn't exceed that?
@ Moppet - Hadn't really thought of that, in fact initially presumed their body would heat it up but that's impossible with a cold blooded animal lol , will defo try and get that positioned outside.
@ eac - Thank you.
@ Razee - Yep best do this just to be sure.
Oh and the Cheerios are just part of the growing collection of cardboard boxes, toilet rolls and any other small containers I can fashion into snakey play things |

Posted - 31/08/2012 : 22:25:37 I'd also add: if you're worried about the hole through which the stat probe cable is treaded, you could always block it with a bit of rolled up paper towel. It threads through nicely along the cable, and the snakes don't seem to be able to push it out, as it scrunches up if they try. Mostly they don't even try, they can't see the hole, because of the tissue. |

Posted - 31/08/2012 : 21:52:47 Looks good One thing I will mention is if your probes are under the hide, snakey will spend a lot of time sitting on them. This can make your thermometer read out wrong because it is really measuring the cooler snake rather than the temperature of the hot end. It may also stop the stat turning off and on at the correct times if snake manages to confuse the probe by sitting on it. My probes are held down by the edge of the warm hide, but the probes themselves sit just outside it to avoid this problem |

Posted - 31/08/2012 : 21:30:27 Looks pretty good to me. You could slide a little more of that heat mat underneath to make the warm end a touch bigger, as Scaly suggested, but otherwise it looks ok. |

Posted - 31/08/2012 : 21:10:35 thats great! the warm end could do with being a little bigger though :)
PS can I have some cheerios please? |
