Posted - 23/08/2012 : 21:29:58 I wonder if the mouse 'putting up a fight' would encourage striking behavior over time.
Make them more likely to want to 'kill' it. |

Posted - 23/08/2012 : 20:32:29 My first two have only been striking for a couple of months just over a year old, my four month old strikes every feed very aggressive eater going to be a big snake me thinks. |

Posted - 22/08/2012 : 23:36:59 Midnight has just started to strike and constrict every feed, she did it now and then. Lightning does it ever time, they are 2 years old x |

Posted - 22/08/2012 : 23:19:22 Mine all seem to have started to strike the older they got. Steve is starting to strike sometimes now and his last feed he struck hard and coiled fast (i think he has been learning from my JCP) |

Posted - 22/08/2012 : 20:15:33 8 is a year old now and he has only struck twice, the last one being this week and that was a small mouse. Jinx has struck a few times but no constrict as of yet, he apparently struck every time at the shop. |

Posted - 22/08/2012 : 19:59:43 My 14mth old was a very lazy feeder until he moved up to smalls then he shocked me with the ferocity of his strike and coil he does it all the time now. |

Posted - 22/08/2012 : 16:43:02 What an excellent question Oooh, I really hope one of mine will grow up to be a striker then. It's just so exciting to watch! Apollo is the gentlest feeder I have ever seen, just opens his mouth and starts eating the mouse practically from the tongs (hahaha, as if I really need them!), Titan is still quite tiny but he has a little more enthusiasm than Apollo does.
I wonder if the size of the mouse might make a difference, like they can't be bothered to strike a pinky but a fluff or a small might get them to do it? Apollo struck his first fluff, attempted to constrict it too but that is the only time I have seen him do that. |

Posted - 22/08/2012 : 12:31:06 I was just curious if they started out striking young was the only possibility of them doing it, obviously not
Nice to hear others experiences. |

Posted - 22/08/2012 : 12:22:35 When Joanna was a hatchling she would never strike feed, she was almost scared of the pinky but as she has got older she has got alot better at strike feeding. She just struck at the mouse one day then it was like switch had flicked she is now my best strike feeder out of all my snakes. All my snakes strike feed even the royal :) |

Posted - 22/08/2012 : 12:17:53 Bob struck when I gave him his first ever pinky, but when I gave him his second the other day he wasn't initially interested so I left him to it. 20 minutes later he'd eaten it, but I reckon it was a slow ingest. I reckon it can depend on their mood :D |
