Posted - 02/08/2012 : 11:51:57 Been looking at the VivExotic LX 36 Vivarium online at Seapets, very reasonable price. However, when i go to order a heatmat all i can find are ones that are only suitable for glass vivs
What kind of heatmat would i need for this viv? Also, does anyone have this viv? Recommend it (for a 3year old corn)

Posted - 09/08/2012 : 20:59:22 Just fyi, I was going to order from seapets but couldn't order all the extra stuff I wanted eg heatmat/substrate etc so got mine from Swell reptiles - can recommend them :) If you just want the viv seapets is cheaper, but if you want to get it all in one go I'd go for Swell :) |

Posted - 07/08/2012 : 16:06:35 Ah well. The chances are that he will still be there. As you say there are still several others worth a look.
It's all part of the fun of snake keeping ... keeping off the menu.
Hope you have a great holiday. |

Posted - 07/08/2012 : 14:16:39 Gave them a call, they can't reserve for that long unfortunately. Hopefully he'll still be there when i get back! If not there are a few lovely ones, and also in the shop as well.
Oh dear! Hope all goes well and he settles in nicely soon! |

Posted - 07/08/2012 : 13:56:53 Opening hours are 10am -> 4 pm. So I hope you finish early.
You are lucky I am settling in a rehomed MBK. I use the term 'settling in' loosely, it is more a case of stopping him from eating me. lol He was fine in a temp RUB but has gone a bit wild (typical MBK) since I moved him into his new viv/ bedside cabinet. |

Posted - 07/08/2012 : 13:40:05 Really?! I did not know this! I better call up for Perry before you steal him hehe
Will give them a bell after work! |

Posted - 07/08/2012 : 13:36:56 They have been stuck there for months.
If you are interested, give them a phone and let them know about your holiday arrangements and they will 'provisionally reserve' it for you. You are under no obligation to take it until you have seen and handled them. (Rehoming fee is usually £25/30.)
I've taken 5 from them ... so far. |

Posted - 07/08/2012 : 10:59:48 Perry is one i was thinking about! And the other named Shifty is gorgeous as well. The only problem with that is it's quite a bit to travel and i have no car, the shop i got Freddie from (Aquacadabra in Edinburgh, alot closer to me) have 4 adults, 3 i have my eye on.
I'm considering asking a friend to take me to have a look at Perry and Shifty if they are still there when i get back from holidays! |

Posted - 02/08/2012 : 13:57:28 I've found this rather informative and useful thread for setting up the heatmat, stat and thermometer in a wooden viv.

Posted - 02/08/2012 : 13:45:43 The LED's are great as they are low energy and don't give out any heat unlike an ordinary light bulb. It adds to the display of the viv as part of the room furnishing and let's you watch what your snakes get up to without squishing your nose up to the glass on a dull winter evening. |

Posted - 02/08/2012 : 13:10:26 Cool. I hadn't thought about putting LEDs in, i suppose it is more for the decoration than the snake! Would look nice though - and i assume doesn't have any effect on them! Already got silicone on my list Will put PVA sealant on too!
So glad i'm getting the viv a few weeks before the snake so i can get it all sorted! So excited haha! |

Posted - 02/08/2012 : 13:04:57 Yes, the mat goes inside. You will probably be better off drilling an extra hole to take the lead and stat probe.
If you are considering lights I would suggest the LEDBERG LED's from IKEA. (£11) It is easier to fit them before final assembly of the viv. The screws are small and fiddly but if you fit the clips to the roof panel before putting it all together it is easy.
A small tin of varnish or PVA sealant and a tube of silicone should also be added to your list for sealing the edge panels. That's about all the essentials you should need apart from the usual decorations and hides.

Posted - 02/08/2012 : 12:23:40 Thanks. i see the heat mat should go inside the viv too. I'm not ordering for another week or two, but when i get all the gear if i need a hand will be sure to ask |
