friend of mine just lost one of her hatchlings, it last ate end of May and was hatched in March, fed problem-free first 5 weeks then just refused despite braining and various other methods

did it die of starvation?

I wouldn't have thought it died of starvation. My little Orlando was a non feeder for the first 5 months before the breeder got him eating, so they can go for a long time without food.
