Posted - 29/06/2012 : 22:13:00 hey guys, just moved sid into his new house, he better like it!! took me most of the day to get it sorted trying to figure out where screws went etc! (always end up with 1 at the end of the project that really should be in the finished piece but is still in your hand, with you standing scatching your head!)

Um, you know those instructions you didn't read ;) It states in them that it invalidates the vivexotic warranty if you don't seal it. It's because it is basically chipboard with melamine coating - the coating is waterproof, but liquid - eg spilt water or snake wee can get in the joins, which will then get into the chipboard and swell it and bye bye viv :(
Plus the smell and bacteria from from wet joints wouldn't be particularly pleasant! Difficult to disinfect when soaked in. |

Posted - 30/06/2012 : 12:47:46 We're taking the risk with not sealing it. We live in rented accomodation and the benefit of being able to take them apart outweighs the cost of having to buy a new one if one of our lovelies does leave us a present in a bad place. |

Posted - 30/06/2012 : 10:29:06 its to keep moisture out, imagine of sid pooped along the joins, it could get in and rot the whole thing |

Posted - 30/06/2012 : 10:27:36 Hmmmm now that I look at it again, yeah the back is on bck to front! I stand by my problem that instead of reading how to assemble it, I observed tr pretty pictures!! :) A into B and all that! I have just now swapped the vents round so as they can't be push outwards! Can I ask the benefit is sealing the tank? I don't plan to submerge it in water or anything? :) here Sid go for a swim! Lol
Cheers guys! |

Posted - 30/06/2012 : 08:24:38 Couple of things (sorry don't want to rain on your parade, it looks really cool lol!!)
1, as Red says the vent looks the wrong way round, which probably means you put the back piece on back to front :p Not that it matters, just switch them round!
2, did you make it a different day? It's just you have to seal vivexotics which that looks like, and you have to then leave the sealant to dry for 48 hrs before putting snakey in due to the fumes (or 24 if you use the one someone else does, think it's Okeetee Mick or lotabob) It also recommends you put sealant round the vents. You may have already done this, it just sounds from your post like you made it and moved Sid in the same day :)
It looks fab and I'm sure Sid will love it :) |

Posted - 30/06/2012 : 06:59:04 Looking good. One thing though, the vent I can see in the pic at the bottom. Looks like it is in back to front, could just be the angle of the camera, if it is back to front they can easily be pushed out by a snake unless it is really well fixed using sealant. Wouldn't want you to loose Sid :) |
