ok so i must have missed some left over shed on the previous shed, i noticed was some shed left over from this shed and attempted to remove using a damp piece of kitchen roll, got most of it of after aout 15 minutes but was still some on.. whilst trying to remove this tip of her tail fell of she didnt seem to notice and showed no signs of concern or pain (although i feel really guilty) there wasnt any blood...what is the best way to treat this?

Happened to me too (well, my little Eddie, not actually me :S) I just put some antibacterial on his tail tip every night and changed his substrate to toilet paper. Worked for me. He was fine :) :)

I'd be surprised if one bad shed caused the problem.

my adult female has skin left on her tip, its been there for over a year, nothing ive tried will take it off. ive used moist caves with moss, giving her baths ive often wondered if it'll cause it to fall off, youve just gave me my answer!im sure your snakey will be fine :)

yes it does make sense...i thought i had checked thoroughly after each shed but obviously missed the tail and didnt check well enough

i imagine that its like the same thing that people used to do to dogs to get rid of their tail. you know they used to cut off the blod curculation to the tail and im sure eventually it dropped off, so the build of shedded skin could of cause the same effect, i hope that made sense :P

When snake sheds should always check for tail tip and eyecaps, takes a few seconds, if not in shed, probably retained, deal with right away, there is really no need for tail tip to fall off

Both of my OH's adult snakes seem to have lost the tips of their tails over their 4/5 years worth of sheds
If its a stump now it should be ok just keep an eye on it and check every shed from now on to see that there's no more retained shed in the future

Again I'm not too knowledged on this, iv been a corn owner for seven days lol
But I think all you can do now is what you have suggested :-/

no blood from what i could tell but may change just to be on the safeside
Georgina Posted - 24/06/2012 : 21:18:05
if there is blood, i would advise changing onto kitchen roll as a substrate. x

it looks like its just the stump, was no bleeding from what i could tell.. think tail might already of been dead...im not sure myself to be honest my first corn so still a bit of a noob. ok thakyou i intend to keep very close eye on her over next couple days may delay feed aswell so can handle her and check her.

Tbh I'm not educated or experienced enough to advise u on this but I know if the shedded skin isn't fully removed the tissue underneath can die
Now it sounds like this has obviously happened and as far as treatment is concerned, is there a wound left behind or is it like a stump because I'm sure no treatment would be required just extra care checking the shedding next time
Sorry to hear of this by the way
