I'm getting my first corn soon and in the process of setting up my viv. I have a heat mat that is controlled by a Habistat pulse prop thermostat inside the viv - my question is do I need to cover it with anything other than the substrate as I am aware that direct contact to a heat sorce can burn snakes? |

forgot to say make sure the thermostat and thermometer probes are directly on the heat mat |

You have bought a pretty accurate thermostat so snakey will be fine directly on the mat. Just need to weigh down the stat probe with a hide or use a hot glue gun to stick it down to make sure snakey doesn't move it from the mat. |

just substrate is fine, it shouldn't get hot enough to burn them (warm end between 27-29) |
