I have large pieces of decorative wood with fake plants over the top, they seem to like entwining the wood and peeking out of the foliage.

Anything they can fit in
Most of mine are in porridge boxes and fake-plant-covered tupperwear and cork bark

Have a look at things marketed for other pets and gardens etc; a nice plant pot or enclosed bird nest thing could work!
My bull snake has one of these (not sure on size!) and seems to like it; http://www.amazon.co.uk/SuperPet-Fiddle-Sticks-Tunnel-Toy/dp/B0002DJ7FO/ref=sr_1_4?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1339025212&sr=1-4

I use cork bark, for me they are the best and most cost effective, as I have multiple snakes I buy the 5kg sacks of assorted pieces for just £25 on surrey pets. They are fantastic for hides of all sizes of snake and you can make platforms and things to climb up etc. I woudn't recomend buying individual pieces as the size of the pieces you need may cost over £10 each.

A decorated cereal box maybe? Or a nice jar/basket type thing from charity shop? Out of 6 hides my snakes currently use only 2 of them are real hides! One has a small bucket type tin, and loves it, one has a hamster trixie style house from car boot, I have a wicker jug, a fish tank ornament ship thing... etc! lol
