I was just wondering what part of the vivarium you shine the light on, I have a heat mat at one end of the viv and have only just started using my lamp for a few hours each day. Do i shine the light on the cooler end without the heat mat or do I shine it on the side with the heat mat?

also, how many hours each day would you recommend having the heat lamp on?

Thanks guys!

Agree with above I was being specific to night viewing.

How can white light bother the snake? Surely that would then mean daylight would also be a problem.

It all depends one why she wants to use the light if its just to brighten it up in the day time then a blue light would be pointless an white would be needed, if its for night viewing then yes red or blue or even a dim white as end of the day if its in a room anyway the room light will be lighting it up slightly

i agree with everything said above except for the options, white light is not the best idea as it might bother the snake, i use this and it work great. plus the blue is not as noticable to snake

corn snakes don't really need heat lamps if you're using a mat too. If you want lighting to see then LED's are safer and work really well
