As above, going to get a Habistat thermostat and have looked into this alot now.
The Habistat Mat Stat looks good but i really like the adjustability of the Habistat Temperature Stat.
Would appreciate peoples opinions on these two thyermostats.
Also is it possible to run more then one mat or heater off one of these as i see the mat stat has a 100w load and the temp stat a 300w load.

i think it also depends on the viv set up. mine are both super insulated and both stay within 0.9 degrees. and they are on off stats. hero is in a rub with a mat stat and his varys no more tham 1.2 degrees. which i am more than happy with. x |

I got mine for £30 from a shop that now dos not exist, think they go on ebay for like £35 maybe? I have only ever used pulse stats so I can't really say what is better, I do have a mat stat tucked away incase one of my pulses breaks but never had it on long enough to compare. |

At surrey pet supplies the standard 100w on off stat is £19.50 plus post. the 600w pulse proportional stat is £33.98 plus post. i use both because i started with the on off stats but every new stat i get is a pulse stat. it just gives you peace of mind. i was constantly looking at the thermometers of the on of stats but with the pulse stat it just stays constant. i think they are worth the extra but that's just me. good luck with your choice. |

ahA- so pulse stats are the way to go, then? are they much dearer than the bogstandard 100w on/off kind? |

My mats keep an amazing temp with a pulse stat :D never drops a degree.

Couldn't agree more, top or bottom of stack never differ by more than 0.2 of a degree, amazingly accurate. |

ok i have just ordered a new habistat mat stat. I like that the mat stat has a flush adjustment screw rather then the temp stat which has a dial you could easily knock. will be a good addition to my large heat mat. Jase |

i use mats and find that my temps do not vary more than 0.8 degrees and my rub set up varys about a degree but i understanmd that both methods work just as well as each other x |

Personally I wouldn't bother with a mat and stat.
I'd go for either a ceramic heater on pulse stat or bulb on dimmer stat these are far more accurate at keeping the right temperature than a mat and temp stat these can fluctuate a couple of degrees where as pulse and dimmer keep a constant heat

The mat stat and temp stat are pretty much the same thing. They are both on/off stats. The only real difference is that the temp stat holds higher loads.
Some people do run more than one mat off a single stat but you have to make sure that each mat is exactly the same size and make and that each set-up is identical. Each set-up still needs a digital thermometer on it. |

some people do run more than one off one stat but i have never had any joy when i try. i have 3 habistat mat stats and i find that the only one i adjust from time to time is the rub set up i have, the other two are on vivs and i have never had to alter them x |
