Typical newbie snake owner here with 2 questions!

Firstly, what's the best way to measure the length of a snake? We've tried using a tailors tape as it's very flexible but snakey won't stay still. At the moment I'm measuring him as he moves against my arm and then taking reference points from where he is to measure. Surely there's an easier way to do this!?!

Secondly, I've just set Pablos thermostat and thermometer up. We're using a Microclimate Ministat 100 and an Exo Terra digital thermometer. What I'm finding is that once the mat has reached the desired temperature and has been switched off by the stat the temperature still rises slowly, I'm guessing caused by the retained heat in the mat whilst it cools down. The range we're currently getting is about 27.5 min and 31.5 max. Obviously the higher temperature isn't sustained and soon goes down but do I need to change anything, and will it harm Pablo in the long run or is everything as it should be!?

Sorry for the barrage of questions!

Have now adjusted temps and are now ranging from 26 to 30 on the dot with each... much better!

Thanks guys, I'll be using that app from now on
I'll turn the stat down slightly too and see how we get on.

To measure your snake use this App here, its explains how to do it

As for your temp, i'd turn it down a little. Its better to be cooler than warmer. 30 is ideally the max you want to see it. Mine fluctuates between 27 and 29.5.

EDIT: For the item of known size i usually put a tape measure under the RUB and take the photo from above
