Woke up this morning to find that Pablo has had his first shed with us!
It came as a little bit of a surprise as we'd not noticed him behaving any differently, and he even ate his weekly pinky last night before shedding!
We did think he was a little duller than normal over the last week but nothing too different.

Anyways, it was very successful and looks like it has come off in one piece. He's looking nice and colourful now and we're glad he seems to be happy for his first shed with us :D

Thanks for the info! I'll be looking out for her going in blue possibly soon then as she last shed almost 4 weeks ago now. Hope I spot it this time as she likes to burrow occasionally.

Ahh I see, well we will have had him 4 weeks friday. I was only wondering when he was due to shed a week or so ago so the timing sounds about right assuming he'd shed a little before we bought him.

I'm looking forward to trying to spot the next one now!

How quickly do their colours change when they're growing? Was changing the water this morning and noticed a brighter orange/yellow area on his back that I hadn't spotted before. I may have just missed it but is it common for them to shed and appear a little different in their colouring so soon?

both mine are a year now, and from being tiny they both shed approx every 4-5 weeks, now harry's a bit bigger he's shedding approx every 8 weeks

I've read that young snakes shed anywhere between every 3 - 8. Tho i think it varies again for each snake, depending on how fast / slow they are growing etc.

Congrats on the first shed going so well! :)
My little corn had her first shed with us after a feed too, shocked me rigid! I figured she'd prob regurg, but no problems. I'm not sure about the 'in blue' phase myself at the mo. I was away for a few days the week before she shed so I may have misssed it?

Also, could anyone please advise as to how often a young corn snake should normally shed?

A good sign with snakes with the dark belly chequers is the chequers going a misty grey kind of colour. I also found it harder to tell on my Carolina when he was a hatchie than I do now.
Thats my excuse for being surprised by one of mine just shedding, she has none.

They stay blue for a day or two, then go clear then it could be upto a week before they shed.

EDIT: Each snake is different, so its only guessing i guess

As a new snake owner I'm still not sure what to expect. From what I'd read I thought they stayed in blue until they shed.

Either way I'm glad it seemed an easy process for Pablo, and he didn't even lose his appetite having eaten hours before he shed!!

Heya , grats on the first shed

He would'nt have been in blue sunday night if he shed today . He may have been in blue maybe up to a week or so ago , then cleared for some days , you must have missed the blue part that's all :)

The picture taken that I use for my signature was only taken Sunday evening.
Would anyone have said they thought he looked in blue? Or is he just going to be a cheeky shedder!?
