Hi all, can any of you that have teeny baby hatchlings tell me their weight at 3 ,4 or 5 weeks so I can have an idea of what might be normal for mine . The shop where I bought her from was in a mess they must have had 40/50 babies of different morphs and sizes all mixed up and so although obvious she is a tiny hatchling and probably Carolina I have no idea what age she is . Her weight is only 4 g ! so am really hoping I can get her to eat soon ! . Am leaving her untouched until thurs then going to try again x

Thanks alot x I don't know how I'd cope without you all ! On a happier note Cornetto is growing well and looking fab 9 and1/2 weeks old and 18g so at least we are getting it right with her x

thanks gmac .Do you think I will have any chance with her ?? I am worried to take her back as she will surely not survive if left there but this is France and they won't refund if I don't take her back !. I think I will just try my absolute best and put it down to experience and keep my fingers seriously crossed x At least here she will have some slim chance x

if the pinkies are that small then theres no harm in trying a full one.

The minute old pinkies we had were too big for some of our smaller hatchlings and they were 6-8g hatchies.

thanks guys x It was just to get an idea of where she should be .Now I'm even more worried !!. They said she'd fed and she did do a poo the day after I got her so was assuming they were telling the truth but now I am feeling a little panicked !.I have some 2 day old pinkies that are seriously tiny should I still chop off the head of one of those and do you think that at that weight I should leave it till thurs to try?
gmac Posted - 17/09/2011 : 18:28:15
at that weight it is very very small it is less than what i would expect straight from the egg.

would recommend just trying pinkie heads for now as the whole pinkie in all likelihood will be too big for the snake.

You are best not looking for comparisons between snakes as really they are just not there they are all different so may just confuse more.

Edit: i would suggest getting in contact with the shop and asking for feeding records, or lack thereof i would guess at. If they have no feeding records i suggest you ask for a refund as your snake is really very very small and in my opinion should not have been sold.

No such thing as normal, at 4 gram though its either fresh out the egg or is a non feeder losing weight, My Spot was 8 grams out the egg and he is a small snake.

Has your snake never fed?
