In preperation for the two corn snakes i plan to get at Doncaster this week i set up their enclosures a few days ago. They are 9 litre RUBS measuring 14" x 9" x6", they have about an inch of aspen covering the floors and an open bottomed tube running the length of them as a hide(with a few wholes cut out). Plus a water bowl at the cool end. One third of each enclosure is sitting on a heat mat.
I have just checked the temperatures in the enclosures with a thermal imaging camera i borrowed from work and they are ranging from a hot end of 35'C to 23'c at the cool end. Does this sound ok? or is the hot end to hot?
I'm sorry if this is too basic a question but i really don't want to harm my first (or any other) snakes.

My Thermostat reads at 26.5*C but the thermometer tells me its between 28 and 29.5.

My hot and cold ends are similar to Aegis currently

I would have your thermostat set a few degrees lower (depends what stat your using though) I have my hot end at about 29-30. Never goes above 30. Cool end is at 22 right now.

yea also i found out that a inch is way to much if you have your thermometer probe on top of the aspen as it will probs burrow and it will be alot hotter on the bottom of the rub itself ( i had about 1cm of aspen and there was 5-6 degrees difference between top of the substrate and underneath)

warm end should be 28-29. ya better off using proper thermometer though. TIC is abit hit an miss for accuracy an abit ott lol
