What does everyone use to disinfect the tank? I've not seen anything in the pet shop specifically for reptiles, but haven't looked in the local reptile shop yet.I plan to do a full clean on Friday, and have Verm X for the chickens, would that be safe to use?

I use F10

I just use the regular Cascade stuff. It's cheap and does the trick :) Gave Puff a nice thorough clean out yesterday with it to identify a mysterious smell (turns out he'd pooed on the heat mat :P Lovely!)

I have heard that F10 stuff is highly recommended though!

actually, not sure if Trigene is commercially available...........i get mine from work and it's super concentrated, a 50ml bottle lasts well over 6 months when diluted to the correct ratio and used in a spray bottle

F10 can be bought concentrated or RTU (diluted - ready to use)

Thanks I will do

I don't know if it's the same with trigene but the F10 comes in concentrated form so I reused a beaphar spray bottle when i diluted some. Might be worthwhile you holding onto the bottle when you have finished it

I got some today, Beaphar deep clean, so have just given the tank a good clean outI'll look online for the F10 or Trigene and see what that's like to use too

I always use detol surface wipes, or surface spray. Kills all the germies and its safe to use where our food is prepared so i figure its ok for the reps too

I use baby bottle strilising fluid. It kills most things and if it is safe for a baby then it should be fine for snakes. Plus it is really cheap as you dont need a big brand.

I used to use fairy liquid, now I use keep it clean spray stuff which I get from sainsburys.

YTou'd have to be super careful about making sure there is no residue from the bleach. You're better off just buying some spray bottle reptile disinfectant :)

Thanks, gives me an idea of what I'm looking for. I tried to edit my post but it wouldn't let me, I meant Virkon S which does claim to kill salmonella, but I will have a proper look tomorrow to see if I can get proper reptile stuff

I usually use F10 which I got off ebay but I have also used Beaphar reptile disinfectant
scottishbluebird Posted - 17/08/2011 : 20:12:45
I'm not sure what it called but got it from pets at home
gingerpony Posted - 17/08/2011 : 20:04:26

We use a specific reptile habitat cleaner by cascade, it's to get rid of any salmonella that might be lurking. Our local pet shops do it, xx

The best stuff to get is F10 disinfectant
