I just can't get him to eat a fuzzy even a really small one with virtually know hair. He approaches it and jumps back, he approaches again, will open his mouth but as soon as he makes contact he spits it out and won't go near it again. He is happy to take pinkies even quite large ones and will eat 3 in one sitting totaling a weight of 8 grams as long as there is no hair on them. Could he have a phobia of mouse hair? (god that sounds stupid) I have found a place that sells large hairless mice but no where that sells hairless fluffs and small/medium hairless mice. I do worry about him as he was a very slow to start feeding and although he is 9 months old still only weighs 25g adn has not grown much in length either. ANY ADVICE GREATLY RECEIVED. Thanks |

Thanks for all the advice. John ate his fuzzy today :) I trimmed the whiskers off and some of the fur around the head and put it in warm water before giving it to him. A couple of cautious sniffs and down it went head first. Really pleased, just hope he continues to eat them now. |

Hope this is Johns problem. I don't cherrish the idea of having to shave mice all his life. I'm just going to have be patient with him and try not to compare him with his brother/sister. Easier said than done though  He will still be eating pinkies when he is 2 years old lol. |

Mine did this for a while :3 and also did it again moving from fuzzies to smalls... I just fed the smaller prey a while longer, it was more the case of the snake being scared though of the bit bigger size until it was just a tad bigger rather than scared of hair lol. |

rat pups are usually at least as big as mouse fuzzies if not bigger but it can depend where you're buying them from. they do seem to smell different but you'll not lose much by buying one and giving it a go  |

Thanks I will try shaving them first rather than jacketing, that must be very time consuming and difficult. I was wondering about rat pups, I've never seen one, what is the size comparison to a mouse fuzzy? Or do you think the smell would put him off even more? |

i personally found it easier doing them defrosted, we started off shaving them fully then just the front half (nose end) then just trimmed off the whiskers then he'd take them as they came
you could also try wetting the fur so it sticks to the mouse rather than sticking up |

it tends to be just a phase, our male JCP was the same, now he's on rats
i know feeding multiple pinkies is a pain but it buys you a bit of time. you could also try scenting the pinkies, then scenting the fuzzies with the same thing, confusion has been known to work too |

I have tried all this and even tried feeding him on my lap and left a fuzzy in over night with him. Offer him a pinky and he will eat it where ever he is what ever he is doing no question lol. |

When you feed him, is he in a seperate tub,or in his faun/rub??
Regardless of what it is though, try covering it with a towel or similar and making it nice and dark then leaving him undisturbed for a couple hours. |
