Posted - 18/06/2011 : 21:16:59 depends on the frequency of the feeding too though an over-sized prey item fed monthly will have fewer nutrients/calories in total than a slightly smaller item fed weekly eg. 1 x 45g mouse/month = 45g food intake or 4 x 35g mice/month (fed weekly)= 140g food intake |

Posted - 16/06/2011 : 20:17:48 oh that will be fine for her she probably could have managed a whole pinkie from the start tbh but hey ho cant change the past and all that she'll be fine - as long as the food is no bigger than 1.5x the width of their body at the widest point |

Posted - 16/06/2011 : 18:14:30 Oh yeah I remember this, 1 pinkie will be absolutely fine. Newly hatched corn snakes eat pinkies with no issues. |

Posted - 16/06/2011 : 18:01:05 well i'm only feeding her on pinkies. the woman from the pet shop who sold me her said to cut the pinky in half and give it her in 2 pieces but she managed a whole pinky today. |

Posted - 16/06/2011 : 15:47:34 i agree with K ^^
if it's big but the snake does manage to eat it it's a race between decomposition and digestion, but IMO what we think is too big a mouse often isn't |

Posted - 16/06/2011 : 15:16:42 Most of the time they will if it is WAY to big and they are able to. The main reason for not feeding items that are to big is that you don't want to risk it starting to decompose in the gut before it gets digested, that will cause all manner of problems. I have known corns that have food items that are to big take ages to digest and then poo out half digested food. It often results in refusal of eating for a short while afterwards. |
