I am picking up a 2ft wooden viv at the weekend ready for a new corn the following weekend (which is approx 9mnths old).
Where is the best place to put the heatmat (which I have already and which will be on a stat) on the floor or elsewhere?
Also how would I keep it in place so the snake could not move/get under it?
What would be the best substrate to use aspen or barkchips?
Sorry if these have been answered before if so could someone be kind enough to send me the links? |

i have fingernails and i cant even get the tape to turn up (I had to use oils last time I cleaned the tank) so im not to worried about nake being able to turn it up and get stuck to it.

Tape is very risky to use with snakes.
You may want to wedge some cardboard in-between the glass doors of the viv whilst it''s still young or you may have an escapee :p |

I have a vanishing artist of a snake. so i taped the heat mat to the bottom with black electrical tape. (his in a thick plastic tank, the bottom is warped a bit so we had to tape it down or he would never come out from under there) |

Aslong as u put water bowl at cool end the humidity won't get to high, well I say that but if ya snakes does his after meal business on the heat may that can cause it to rise but still now where near enough to be worried about |

I was informed by reptile shop that need at least one hygrometer to make sure viv doesn't get too humid!
I have not put it in the viv yet.
I already had 2x digital thermometers 1 for each end.
The viv is setup now and should be picking up its inhabitant in a week or so.

Hi, you don't need a hygrometer, you will need a digital thermometer to measure your temps.
The mat can be held down with aquarium sealent or a heavy hide.

You should have a thin layer of aspen over the heat mat, the rest of the viv I would imagine you could put as much as you like, they do like to burrow in the aspen and make little tunnels. You don't need a Hygrometer for corn snakes as they don't need a humid environment. Also, I would not use sealant to hold down the heatmat, i would just use a hide to weigh it down or a few stones, also using either hide or stones to weigh down the heatmat stat and digi temp probe. |

Heatmat goes at either of the ends
You can use sealant to hold it down or a hide will do just fine.
Aspen IMO is a better substrate than chips.

the heamat should go on the floor at one end and u can use aquarium sealant 2 stick it down. I'd personaly use aspen. |
