My snake shed in one nice piece last night and i have held him for the first time for about 5 minuits since. he didnt make any motion to strike at me, but i could tell, he was sketched out. He would quickly constrictt like i was going to atack him. Every time i approach the cage he retreats to one of his hides. Should i pick up the hide and just pick him up? or wait for a better opportunity. Today was his 8th day home. What is the best approach? i know i have to be sum what aggresive, but is there a limit? |

If you look on youtube there is a good example of how to and how not to pick up a snake. Go to reptiltv episode 12. It's in German, but the visuals tell you everything you need to know.
I've had rattly tails and hisses from some of my snakes, but I just ignore them and pick them up. Apart from when they're in blue or digesting they're generally bluffing. |

Confident yes, but never aggressive. Slow, but deliberate movements are good. |

If I want to get any of mine out and they are in their hide I simply carefully lift the hide off and scoop them up gently but firmly. I actually find it easier picking them up when under a hide as thet are curled up so less likely to dart off. |

He isnt agressive at all. hasnt made an atempt to bite. And confident is a better word than ŕgggresive`lol. He just seems scared. Im just curious if i should only remove him from his home when he is out of his hides (getting water or exploring) rather than disturbing him in his hide. So far, i have only picked him up when he was climbing the glass to the top of the tank. Otherwise he just retreats to the closest hide. He truly is a very timid, shy snake. I guess it just takes time. |

if you have an aggressive snake, you need to be quick otherwise you are going to get bitten. Fast and confident rather than aggressiveness. |

Yeah slow, calm, deliberate movements and move in from the side not from above. Put yourself in their shoes how terrrifying it must be to be picked up by something so huge it takes them time to learn your not going to eat them or hurt them. |

you have to be aggressive??
IMO you need to be calm, not move too fast but be confident
don't dither around moving your hand towards and away from your snake as he'll feel threatened and possibly act defensively eg 'S'ing up, hissing and tail rattling, or even striking |
