i have been told several different things.

things like the fish tank wont be able to contain heat, i wont be able to use a heat mat because they can catch fire easy.

can someone list the things that i would need to convert a fish tank please if it is possible :)

That was Trio a couple years back, he had his lid weighted in place with a small crate with half dozen phone books, wooden blocks and some strapping.
He still managed to force the lid.

Naughty Trio!

A decent and very secure lid
A thermostat (crucial regardless of viv type)
Polystyrene sheeting.
A couple of small fans (unless you have a glass drill)

A fish tank wont hold heat, but no viv will really, it's heat from the matt that is crucial.
I'd be equally impressed if a heatmat can set fire to a fish tank, I think the temp that glass catches fire is about 3000 degrees celcius or something equally daft.

I would use a heat mat in a fish tank conversion simply because I found it easier to regulate the heat in comparison to a heat lamp, obviously either should only be used with a suitable stat.
Without a stat a mat will overheat and risk cracking the glass as well as causing massive heat burns, the same goes with a lamp.
