Ok, so I've got everything I need except a stat for the heat mat and a digi thermometer - I'll pick them up in next few weeks, before I get my corn.

What I'd like to know is how did everyone on here start themselves up for their new corns? Can you all tell me, if you don't mind sharing?

Thanks

Unfortunately I had the reverse problem. The snake arrived first in a bucket proffered by a chap who didn't know what the hell it was, but only that it was trying to get into his house.
I'm a member of the NABU, which is a German national wildlife organization, and I'm responsible for any stray exotics that people may find in the local area. Hence the man with the bucket.
Luckily I had a spare aquarium I could set him up in temporarily before setting up a final viv with statted heat mats, hides and the like.
I now have emergency equipment for any future surprises.

We've got our corns in RUBs as well, and use unprinted newspaper for substrate. We went to B&Q and bought plastic pot trays for hides, and use ceramic water bowls from Wilkinson (the hatchlings have the same except kitchen roll substrate, smaller pot tray hides and glass tea light holders as water bowls).

We always leave any new electric equipment (mat, stat, etc) running for at least 24 hours so we can pinpoint any faults early.

I followed this setup guide for my first corn but used loo roll tubes for hides

This then my setups have changed a bit. I use rubs now not faunariums and I use kitchen roll as substrate.
