Will an analogue thermometer pick up the temperature that a heat mat gives off on the cool side of the vivarium?

I've got a digital one with probe for where the heat mat will be at the warm end but i was wondering because heat mats don't effect the air temperature then would i be able to take a reading of an analogue thermometer from the cool end?
