Posted - 17/03/2011 : 15:26:39 Hi all back again with more questions :-) I am looking at habistat heat mats and stats and wondering........ I am segregating my large viv in two for two snakes and was wondering can I use two mats with one stat?? Or do I get one big mat and share it between them?? Any and all advice are very much appreciated |

Posted - 17/03/2011 : 21:58:59 i've done the same as SB and Mort, one large mat to heat both sides of a split viv......
and i have multiple mats running off one stat too (but as previously mentioned, it's much easier when the mats are similar) although the level of heat will be controlled by the stat, if there's a fault with the mat that doesn't have the probe sat on it there could be a problem |

Posted - 17/03/2011 : 18:20:43 I personally wouldn't use multiple mats on one stat- if I have one stat for one mat, and there is a problem, I might lose one snake. If I have 1 stat for 5 mats, and there is a problem, I might lose 5 snakes.
Just personal choice.
I have a 4 foot viv split in 2 with a heatmat directly underneath the partition, works a treat. |

Posted - 17/03/2011 : 15:45:25 If you use exactly the same mat, as in same size, wattage and manufacturer there should be very little between their performance so in theory one stat can run as many of the smae matt as the stst can cope with, the habistat has a max wattage of 100 watts so as long as all the mats you run combined dont exceed 100 watts its possible. You have to monitor them independently with thermometers but the stat probe only needs to touch 1 of the mats. To keep the performance the same the setups would need to be as near to identical as possible too. I know people on here rather than buying separate mats buy a heat strip (long mat) instead. |

Posted - 17/03/2011 : 15:32:40 I've tried using 2 mats on 1 stat and it was a job to get then running at the same temp, and when it came to cleaning out I had to go through the hassle of getting them to run the same tep all over again. So in my experience 2 mats and 1 stat don't work in vivs but it would appear to work with RUBS. A Stat to run each mat would be the best way I would think. |
