hello im building my own viv ive got the box done its 27" long and 18" high i was wondering where on earth did you get your glass runners from and where did you get your glass or acrylic from ? thats cut to size or near enough ? |

I can say with some confidence, because my elder brother was the commercial director of a plastics specialist for two decades, that certain types of clear platic are far more rigid, and durable, than glass.
In fact many bus shelters in innercity areas are made of tuffnel grade plastic rather than galss because they are pretty much vandal proof.
Lightweight perspex is definately not a good idea, but higher grades of perspex are available that do not scratch, do not flex, and do not shatter.(the windows in aircraft are made of plastic) |

Scratches, bows, wobbles and its too light so it rattles in the runners. |

I used perspex for a viv once, wouldn't again. |

B&Q sells perspex.
It can pften be more expensive than a couple bits of glass made to cut to be honest, plus it scratches more and has a tendancy to flex if leaned upon hard.
I had about 3 weeks of regulars escapes until I found that out.
I have a piccy somewhere of the snake mid-escape, I shall try to find. |

when you get your glass, ask for polished edges so they're not sharp |

Once you've built the viv and stuck the runners on, you may find it easier to bring the viv to a glaziers for measuring/fitting.
Depending on the snake that's going in there will also depend on cost of glass, a lot of people use 6mm toughened others 4mm.
In mine I have 6mm float with stone-smoothed edges, I'd guesstimate for each bit of glass to be around 4 quid each if using float, toughened ramps the cost up a bit. |

Pick a glazier and they will knock you up some glass for next to nothing.
Runners and handle thingys are available on ebay. |
