I am setting up a viv for Gizmo. I am going to get some branches from the trees on my grandads land but I am unsure on what I can use. I have searched on here but cant find a answer about all woods. There is:

Silver Birch
Apple Tree (cooking and eating)
Pear Tree
Cherry Tree (Wild and Planted)

The branch is to be for Gizmo to climb. I have read about the striping bark and soaking in bleach etc. I would prefer to use the Silver Birch if I can but I can use the others if needs be.

Cheers

I couldn't find anything about Silver Birch, I got a branch off of a Wild Pear Tree so will be using that.

Cheers

More here as well: http://www.thereptilian.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?tid=1183

Although I see no references anywhere to Silver Birch.

One of the things that is important to think about is that a large amount of the plants on the lists are for herps in general, so it would affect herbivores/omnivores more than carnivores due to the fact that they eat vegitation so have a much larger chance of ingesting something apparently toxic to them.
This doesn't mean that it's safe to put potentially toxic plants into a snakes viv, one of my snakes tried to eat a plant once.

I use apple to make climbing branches, its fine. It bakes well in the oven too and is easy to take the bark off.

Cheers eeji. Found this thread http://www.thecornsnake.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2402

Would of thought the above thread would of been a sticky. So cherry is not a option. Still got the option of Apple and Pear trees, Still unsure about Silver Birch though.

i have 'heard' that cherry isn't too good, but don't quote me on that - some more reading is needed on that I think :)

Fruit trees are ok to use for all animals, not sure about the silver birch though.
