Hiya,
Just been checking Vin's faun temps and noticed that the stat's light hadn't switched off (so the mat was still heating and hadn't reached the right temp). When I used a digital thermometer probe to check the temperature I was horrified to find that the temp was 35 degrees  as the probe obviously wasn't in the warmest part of the faun (probably too close to the edge), and it wasn't reading accurately.
Re-sited the probe now and the stat immediatly switched off to lower the temp, just wanted to put this up to let new owners know that where the temp probe is sited makes a huge difference!
Vin poked his head out of his cool end hide and flicked his tongue at me as if to say "A little warm don't you think?!" 
Everyone else will probably be thinking "Well duh!" but just thought if there's any new owners like me, they might not realize! So glad I check temps regularly! Sorry if there's already a thread on this somewhere! xx |

It made me laugh too, took about 2 maybe 3 seconds to realise it was the glue. Note to self, after repositioning probes, reset the thermometers. |

Hopefully it might be of some use to someone, just shocked me how warm it was! Got a micro-climate mat and micro-climate stat, just not temp probing the right area! I don't have a digital thermometer constantly in situ, I just use it to check the temps once or twice a day in the area the probe is, I'm just lucky I got suspicious today and temp-tested more extensively around the faun, inc his water bowl temp!
I imagine Vin will be like Spot and batter the probe about a bit (although he's more a climber than a tunneller!) but as the hole the probe enters the faun through is quite a tight fit it can't move too much once sited! xx |

I have glued the probes for my dimming stat together with a thin line of glue gun glue and the probes for my mat-stat are glued down to the mat using the same glue gun glue. Its just plastic and non toxic and will break off with a bit of force if needs be but not when Spot headbutts them while digging (which he did on a regular basis). Though I got a scare when I checked my max/min temps for the day, it read a high of 62 degrees, took a few seconds to realise why, the glue is very hot as a liquid. |

It wasn't until I joined this forum (luckily before I brought Nimbus home) that I even knew a thermostat was a must!
I use a thin rubber band to hold the thermometer and thermostat probe together so I know that they are both reading from the same place. |
