Ok, so I have a home made viv and the floor of it is wooden so I can't put the heat mat under the tank like I would usually do because the wood is too thick to let the heat through, so I was wondering if it's ok to have the heat mat inside the viv, just under the substrate? And yes the mat will have a stat

My mat is inside under large bathroom tiles so Hiss doesnt come into contact with it.

thats fine ours is in the viv with substrate on top, we haven't stuck the mat down we just put his hide on top which is quite heavy so no worries of snakey getting underneath it. if its statted properly it shouldn't harm him even if he did. the other option is to seal it down with vivarium sealant.
