hi all, just a quick one with regards to cool end heating as the cool end is getting as low as 5 degrees. at the minute the snake never leaves his warm hide i'm guessing because the cool end is far too cold for him. so i have fitted a heat lamp with a dimmer stat and the temp is set between 22 and 24 degrees an monitored with a digital thermometer. question is what bulb should i use. i have a blue day spotlamp which doesn't really get much above 17 degrees an also have an infa red heat glo which reaches the correct temp with no problems. is infa red ok an can it be left on 24hrs.

I use an ordinary coloured 60w household bulb which does the job ok. As long as your stat is working ok than any sort of bulb should be ok, including infa red left on all day!
