Posted - 20/03/2011 : 14:55:19 hi what is a rub :) |

Posted - 20/03/2011 : 14:06:00 the temps should be that nearest the heatmat so if your heatmat is below your rub the base of the rub should be at those temps. The substrate shouldn't be very thick over the hot maybe a cm or so.
How are you setting up the box, as the mat normally would be on the underside of the rub and not in it. Also if you are using a stat there shouldn't be any risk of the mat overheating and setting fire to the substrate. |

Posted - 20/03/2011 : 10:11:31 hi all i got the temperature between 27-29c last night but can you tell me if its the mat that needs to be 27-29 or just the hole tank temperature. also when i get him out of his box and put the sub-trait down over the mat will it get to hot were it will catch fire as i know that wood chippings can catch fire very easy. i know that might sound stupid but this is my first tank and snake so im just not sure :) |

Posted - 19/03/2011 : 17:34:13 if your local chinese takeaway uses plastic tubs they're ideal for hatchies! it may look a bit on the small side but they really do well in them!
oh, and congrats on your purchase |

Posted - 19/03/2011 : 17:32:22 easiest thing to do is keep him in the tub you brought him home in, or a tupperware tub with some air holes, then get a faunarium or RUB in the morning place the tub half over the heatmat over night a 12" hatchie will either get lost in a 4ft viv or be able to squeeze between the glass panes or escape through any tiny holes drilled for cables, or through the vents (depending on the type) |
