hi my husband recently got a corn snake for a family pet i never thought id love and care for her as much as i do as never been a snake lover but ruby has changed all that..my problem is the humidity i cant get it lower than 90 on her hydrometer and this is a big worry for me i put a hide out in the heated end and one in the cool end her water is as far away from the heated area as possible in opposite corner she only has a heat mat which is covering one third of the underneath,the temperatures are spot on at both ends,it is a plastic tank with alot of air ventilations at the top..if any one knows how to decrease the humidity id be very greatfull or any advice..im just really worried i changed her aspen bedding yesterday aswell. |

Only because orchard bark is supplied damp, well, the stuff I had was supplied damp. |

aspen is fine hun 
something like orchid bark would definitely raise the humidity too much... |

the aspen is all dry, not one bit is wet or damp and the tank has no mist what so ever.thanks for replies :) feel better knowing everything is ok |

Don't bother spending your money, unless the aspen is wet then you have no worries, the humidity at 90% would mist the glass, so unless that is happening then its not a problem. |

dial hygrometers can be pretty inaccurate...........
what substrate (bedding) are you using? |

ok thank you i was getting really worried ill shoot out to get one as soon as i get paid monday,i was just worrying as was getting told it would cause Respiratory Infections. she is out of her tank 3 times a day with me going from hand to hand and in and out of fingers however shes just eaten from seperate tank(thats empty) and been put back in normal tank so wont be handeling her for a day or two..excuse spelling errors |

Ok thought it would be one of them, ive read reports of these being unrealiable and wrong. If you do want to check Humidity then use a digital one like this http://www.petsathome.com/shop/digital-hygrometer-by-exo-terra-28247?cm_re=barilliance. You can find cheaper ones on Ebay.
Im no expert, but i think im correct, id wait for someone with more experience to comment aswell. :) |

I can't imagine that reading being right, what type of hygrometer are you using, is it digital? Most people don't use Hygrometers for Corns anyway because they are fine at room conditions. If there is nothing at all that could cause so much mositure in the tank or the room, then id say the hygrometer is faulty. |
