Yes, I'd go for artificial foliage - it's expensive at first (though if you've got a Dunelm Mill near you, apparently they're very reasonable.) .............

1: 6ft Holland ivy garland - £3.59p
2: 6ft English ivy Garland - £3.59p
3: Star Flower - .59p
4: Gypso Spray cream - .79p
5: Dusty Miller Spray- .79p
6: Ivy Spray - .59p
7: Long Foam Leaf - .69p

The star flower has about 8 little white headed flowers on that didn't come out very well in the photo.
Total price - £10.63p
I picked these things up yesterday from my local dunelm mill, much cheaper than any rep shop.

You're not kidding. Must go there and investigate!

Well the hide is white so I don't think he feels as secure,, I might be wrong though!! I have attached some of my fake plants that I have onto it so it looks a bit more enclosed Thanks for the advice guys x

I'd go for artificial. Don't forget all the little bugs and parasites that could leave residue on real leaves. Don't want to upset snakes tummy.
Edited to add....not saying snake will eat the leaves but he will probably flick his tongue and 'taste' them.

Dammit I forgot about the spines on hawthorn - was just concentrating on safety of leaves! Sorry!

Yes, I'd go for artificial foliage - it's expensive at first (though if you've got a Dunelm Mill near you, apparently they're very reasonable.) Or you could try £ shops etc.

It will last longer than fresh leaves, which will soon wilt even if you keep the twigs damp, won't rot and cause dust/moulds, and won't be in danger of harbouring any chemicals that might have been sprayed nearby/drifted on wind.

If you're determined to have fresh, oak, beech and hawthorn are certainly safe, but they'll need washing first and within a couple of days they'll start going mouldy and wilted ...

An artificial fern next to the hide would look fabulous, like woodland, with some leaves fastened to the wall at the back?

All the best.
