Hi all im new to the site and have had my corn for about two years now, we keep her in a 3ft viv and have a 75w infrared heat bulb that is guarded and has been fab in keeping the hot side nice and cosy. However we have recently moved and since doing so have found that the whole viv is warmer than usual, the hot side being around 34c and sometimes warmer and the cool side being around 28c. I just wanted to know if this was too hot and if so what the ideal temperatures are for a corn. Thanks x |

the dial type thermometers are notoriously inaccurate...............as well as where they seem to be stuck on a lot of vivs (half way up the side, usually in tte middle of viv).............means they're neither use nor ornament!
a digital thermemeter with the probe placed on the substrate above (or below if a bulb) the heat source is the best way of setting up. the only use i've found for dial thermometers or the stick on strip thermometers is to give you a rough estimate of the temp in the cool end of the viv  |

I tested one ona heat mat along with a digi therm and found the dial one to be around 2c off. There are others on here that have done similar tests and found them to be off aswell.
They will probably suffice for now since your using a bulb to heat the viv but it may be best to get atleast one digi therm for on the warm side so you can measure the temps at substrate level. |

have a look on ebay, i picked up a few digi ones for around £3 each, tbh prob cost around the same as the silly stick on ones we where told to get! lol deffo worth the few pounds! |

For an IR Bulb you would need a dimmer stat. But you really should get one ASAP, it is a crucial piece of kit.
What are you using to monitor the temperatures? |

When we first got her the shop we got her from didn’t advise us to get a thermostat with her set up so we’ve never had one and as the temp has always been ok up till now I wasn’t worried but we’ve been looking at getting one since this has happened. Is there a particular brand/type you would recommend? |

surely your thermostat stops it getting too warm for her? if not it obviously needs tweaking/turning down a bit! |

Thanks for the advice, it was around 30c at the hot end and 24c at the cool end before we moved but then shot up! I thought it was probably too hot but wanted to check as I know I sometimes worry and fuss about her more than I probably need to lol : ) |

somewhere around 29/30'c is about right for the warm end, the cool end needs to be around room temp - 21-24'c  |
