I tried the heat mat last night and i had it on for a while but the light never came on. Does anyone know when this light goes on and when it does when does it go off?

Although your thread is about a problem with it coming on and off, as Elament said about them being a nightmaare when it comes to getting the correct temps. So here is a link to a topic and it gives you more info.

I have a Microclimate, a Komodo and a Habistat, I would put the Habistat at number one out of these products. It has both a power light AND a heat ON/OFF light. Where as the Micro and Komodo only have the one light for Heat. But I never had issues like the one you have described and certainley never had to do what you have done to get it going.

No probs. Stats can be a nightmare to set up especially on/off stats. They take a lot of tweaking to get them just right.

thanks. I phoned the company and he advised me to put something cold to the sensor for a few minutes and then put it to a high temp and it came on.

Ok I had this problem with a habistat stat. To check its working unplug the heatmat and plug a lamp into the socket on the stat where you would normally plug in the heat mat. If the lamp comes on and the light on the stat doesnt then your stat is faulty so take it back and get a new one.

Editted to add: I am not familiar with microclimate as I have habistat but if its anything like them then you should have two lights one for power and one for when the heatmat is being powered. The power light should be on constantly and the heat light should come on when the stat is sending power to the heatmat. Follow the guide above to see if your heatmat light is working or not. It could be that you have the stat turned down too far so the mat is not coming on or it could be that your mat light is broken (which happened to me) hope that makes sence.
