Hi all,
It's been a long time since I have been on here, life is completely manic at the moment lol.
Tiny & Snowey are doing well, Tiny is about a year old now and so big compared to what she was when I first got her.
Mel (My boys snake) on the other hand is a different story. She had trouble feeding at first, she regurgitated a few feeds and I have now put her in a smaller faun to make her feel more secure and I now have her feeding on 2 fuzzies regular as clock work with no regurge or anything.
My problem is Mel is now at the stage where I moved Tiny and Snowy up to small mice so I have tried a couple of times with Mel, but she refuses to even go near the small mice. If I then try 2 fuzzies she wolfs them down so she must be hungry.
Has anyone else had anything similar with their snakes ? or in time will she just eat one when she's ready.

I am so glad to hear how well Tiny and Snowy are doing Paul....I bet you cant believe how fast they are growing and how long you have had them  !
I am so glad the problems with Mel regurgitating have been sorted out, it shows how important it is to have the right size home for them so they feel safe and secure.
When you say that Mel has reached the stage where you moved Tiny and Snowy up to small mice, do you mean that she is the same age or the same weight? Different snakes grow and develop differently and it may be that she just doesnt feel ready for a small mouse yet.
Stumpy's question is a valid one....if the 2 small fuzzies are still leaving a bump once she has eaten them then she is fine staying with them for a while. The other point is her width....is the small mouse's girth 1.5 times the size of the widest part of the Mel's body girth? If it is then it is too big for her to take and she probably knows it.
To be honest I wouldnt worry too much, as long as she is eating and putting on weight then she will come to eating mice when she is ready. If there is no bump after she has eaten the 2 fuzzies and you feel it is the right time then you could offer her a small mouse every other feed (I wouldnt do it every feed as you dont want to stress her) and see if she takes it, one day she will surprise you!

How much of a bulge does the feeding leave?
Look for a small, small mouse and miss a feed then try her with it. |
