Posted - 11/07/2010 : 12:49:30 I took the "just set it up and plonk them in approach" when i got casper because i bought the set up from the shop, but it took me ages getting the temps i wanted on the stat so now i order the stuff and set it up the day/morning before i go. |

Posted - 11/07/2010 : 12:22:02 It's down to choice. Some people like their's set-up 2 days before others will plop them straight in. I plop mine straight in as like hillzi. As long as you keep an eye on the temperature and that the stat is in the proper place I see no problem with it. A sort of test run for a day might be useful for people new to snakes though. It took me ages to like do small fiddles with the stat to get it to the temps I wanted. |

Posted - 11/07/2010 : 10:45:32 Tinkering, tinker, and then tinker some more of the stat dial to what the digital thermometer reads.
Personally, I'm quite a lax keeper, I just take home and plug in.
Call me irresponsible if you wish, but common sense says if its statted that it wont overheat, and of course, wont get too cold. |

Posted - 11/07/2010 : 04:03:54 What sort of help Thomas? Have you checked out LittleMick's 101 on setting up a faun for a hatchling? (http://www.thecornsnake.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=9878) This gives you a good idea of what temps you need and how to get them.
You are looking for a temp of approx 27 - 29oC in the warm end....and around 22oC in the cool end, although you dont really need to worry about the cool end too much as it should sort itself out if you have the warm end at the right temp.
If you could be more specific about what help you need with the temps then we can be more specific with our advice ....

Posted - 10/07/2010 : 22:42:24 i tend to set mine up the day before just to be sure, but like kehhlyr said aslong as you have the right stuff its just a case of getting your temps right. Which with some thermostats can take anywhere between 2 minutes and half a day lol. |

Posted - 10/07/2010 : 22:29:23 If it's the right size for the hatchie, then you only really need the time it takes to get the temperatures sorted before moving snakie in. Done right, you could move snake in within an hour or so of setting up. |
