Casper doze not strik his food like Rusty doze, he just opens his mouth and gently takes the mouse by the head and eats it, were Rusty will strik fast and constricks and then eat it, i kno thats all snakes are diffrent but i thort i would ask anyway.

All corns are different as you can see from what everyone has said.
With my 2 Kellog is seriously lazy and just does a gentle strike and if I am lucky he will throw a lazy coil over the mouse as if to say 'This is mine, hands off!'....whereas Silvesta is a definite strike, coil and constrict machine! Having said that they have both just come off hunger strike from breeding season and Silvesta has fed 3 times, each time carefully examining his mouse from all sides before gently taking it in his mouth by its tummy....whereas Kellog has fed twice and made me seriously jump the last time as he virtually launched himself out of the box, struck, coiled and constricted before I had caught my breath  ! So not only are all snakes different, but they also change their own behaviours.
You can try and encourage Casper to strike by warming his food so it smells better and even braining it, as the smell of the blood will make his hunting instincts kick in. I am not so sure about the tapping on the nose that MikeRichards has suggested....I know others have tried it and it has actually scared their snake. Also, do you do the pinkie prance or mousey dance? As in wiggle the mouse a bit as though it were alive....it does make quite a difference.
I dont think trying a different food is necessary. I know it would be great to see Casper strike like Rusty does, but all that matters is that he is eating.

I think mine is getting much more confident now. He cruises about his vivarium each evening and when I get him out he's far more active that at first and always looking for somewhere to slide off to.
On the subject of bursting mice, I got the full effect tonight when Glycol hit his mouse like a Mac truck and burst it open with a serious squeeze. Mouse intestines are not the prettiest of things to see.  |

Would it help if i tryed a diff food and what would u surgest ?
Ive heard peaple talk about qills eggs but how do u feed it to them ?
Is it good to change there food now and then ? :) |

I think Marge is getting lazy, she used to really strike and constrict, but the last two feeds she couldn't be bothered just grabbed the mouse and swallowed it.
Typical female, can't make up her mind i suppose!! |

As said, defrost mouses smell different to fresh kill or live, and they know it too, some of mine are lazy feeders, although if I use fresh kill its all guns blazing!
I personally like to get the snake to strike feed where possible, my lazy feeders I tap on the nose with the mouse to rile them up abit, it works for the most part, nearly all mine are strikers, and that's the way I like it!! |

Bella constricts all hell out of her food, often bursting it in her enthusiasm, which is pretty grim. Luna will strike half-heartedly sometimes, and occasionally loop a bit of her body vaguely towards her head but that's as far as she goes with constricting. Luna is generally a lot more placid than Bella so I've just put it down to their individual temperaments. |

Another vote for the strikes like a bullet and crushes the life out of an already dead mouse. I don't want to deflate my snakes ego, so I don't mention that his mouse is already dead. Snakes can be sensitive like that
Seriously though, I am also coming to the conclusion that snakes, while maybe not having personalities of their own, certainly have individual traits and characteristics. |

Reggie is exactly the same, but aslong as he is eating and is healthy im not fussed tobe quite honest. |

lol just like one of mine lazy little bugger
where one of the others will bend the head of the mouse so far back while constricting it splits the neck
and you end up with claret everywhere lol |

yes it is normal, some snakes are lazy and will just open there mouth and take it, wereas some snake will go full force and strike and constrict |
