Posted - 29/06/2010 : 11:51:36 Well, I'd had Alice a week on Sunday so I got her out to try feeding her. Bloody thing refused, not interested even after braining *sigh* I've read the non-feeding sticky and I'm going to leave her STRICTLY alone another week (I may or may not have ahd her out a couple of times in the first week...*ahem* ) and try again. I know it's FAR too soon to be worrying after just missing but one feed but we can't help it can we? She's so little and defenceless She was eating fine before I got her - last snacked on 19th June. She's had two poos since I got her though, yummy.
Actually, looking at the record, I wonder if she's due for a shed? She had her first shed on 30th May. There's no wayto tell if she's blue her not because she's buried under the substrate now and won't come out - all I can see it her belly through the bottom ofher faunarium.
Gah! Come on, give me reassurances!

Posted - 09/07/2010 : 11:30:47 So glad everything is going so well with Alice. It must have been lovely to finally get her out and have a proper hold of her. I cant even begin to imagine handling something that small and that fast.
And it must be fantastic (and a relief) to have seen her feed for the first time. I guess it is always a worry in the back of your mind as to whether they are going to feed or not....
Now you just have to wait those frustrating 48hrs before you can handle her again !

Posted - 07/07/2010 : 09:43:22 Got her out for her first handling yesterday and she did very well; she was very jumpy at first (blimey, they can't half ZOOM when they're so little!) but she settled down after a few minutes. She doesn't seem to be hiding quite as much now - she was curled up behind one of her hides this morning and had been rather active in the night as the other hide was in the water bowl *sigh* I shall handle her for longer tonight and try some grub tomorrow. |

Posted - 06/07/2010 : 04:20:15 I am so glad she has eaten Jac (and a little less about beating a poor little shoelace please !!).
I know the circumstances are not ideal but what is important is that she has eaten, so you can breathe a sigh of relief (and a full shed to top it off....amazing !!).
As for where you go from here....you know I am no expert so I can only tell you what I think. It could very well be that she is still settling in and being a shy and nervy feeder. Just give her time and once you are happy that she is feeding happily then you could try feeding her in the feeding box again. I know feeding her on the substrate is not ideal, but you could put the pinky on some paper or a tile....although there is obviously the risk of her pulling it off whatever you put it on and into one of her hides.
I had Silvesta on kitchen roll recently due to a bad shed and it drove me mad! He kept hiding under the layers and when he pooed on it it was so much harder to clean up as it soaks into so much of the kitchen roll around it!! But if that is what you need to do to feel happier about her feeding in her faun then do it. And certainly try and fill the faun up a bit if you are worried about her feeling a bit insecure in it.
Just give her time Jac and next time you feed her maybe offer it to her in the feeding box but out of the faun and with the hides in the box. If she doesnt take it straight away then put it in the box with her, cover it up and leave her for a bit. Still no success then return the box to the faun like last time....just a suggestion.
Sorry, have rambled on but I do hope it has been of some help.

Posted - 04/07/2010 : 17:15:22 i have little aura on kitchen towel (well they all are still lol) and her faun has more loo rolls in than i can remember - she loves curling up in them and on top of them, you can use screwed up kitchen towels in a corner if you still want to give her some burrowing facilities, might just be that shes shy about eating in public - dont panic though if she doesnt eat straight away next time - shes still settling in |

Posted - 04/07/2010 : 11:54:05 You may have to do this again. If you this the faun is too big, put some loo rolls in there. It might be easier to change to kitchen roll but when I used kitchen roll, my snakes used to get under the kitchen roll and use that as a hide rather than than their actual hide. |

Posted - 04/07/2010 : 10:09:14 Ha! I win!
She shed overnight on Friday which was a bit of a surprise; like I said I thought it might be coming but because she was being so secretive it was hard to tell. Perfect little skin, all off in one piece hurrah! So yesterday I decided to feed her but once again she wasn't having any of it - she reared back from the pinky and then started zooming about in the feeding box desperately trying to get out and that was it; no interest whatsoever in food.
So, I put both her hides into the feeding box, then put her feeding box into her faunarium so it was over the right temp gradient, and put the pinky in the cool hide (not on purpose, only realised this later). Then I left her alone. When we came back home from a BBQ yesterday evening she'd not touched it and was buried under the substrate again. When we went to bed it had moved but was still not eaten.
BUT I got up this morning and there was Alice in the hide, looking a bit fat, with no pinky. Woo hoo!
So, how do I take it from here? Now she's eaten is she likely to carry on feeding fine or might I have to do this again? Is it possible that the Exoterra medium flat faunarium she's in is too big? I've wondered this as she ate inside the feeding box, which is smaller. Also, would changing her substrate to kitchen paper be a good idea at this juncture?
But I WIN LITTLE SNAKE! YOU CAN'T BEAT ME *ahem* |

Posted - 30/06/2010 : 08:42:15 SHe is being really mardy now and not coming out at all. She's resolutely buried under her water bowl. If she keeps this up she's going on to kitchen paper at the weekend as punishment, no matter how much she likes burrowing! |

Jac!!! You should know better ! Not keeping to the one-week rule, you naughty girl (not that I think it will have made much difference to be honest).
It is early days but you cant stop worrying about them, even when you know logically that you shouldnt be! So listen to the experts, accept their reassurances and leave her alone for a week!!!
I am sure she'll be fine , you know what you are doing and you have the forum for support....just trust yourself a bit more .

She'll be fine. I found my babies didn't like me braining them either, some didn't have their fiorst meal for 2 months so your little one is fine ^^ |

Posted - 29/06/2010 : 12:05:09 She will be fine, it can take a little while for a proper youngster to get into a feeding routine, although they won't recognise a routine! Its entirely possible that a shed is due, so just leave it a week and try again. If that doesn't work, leave the pinky in with her overnight.
