I had sort of figured this out...but you know me, always a worrier! I do know, logically, that they can cope in the heat, that they can burrow to escape it and wont be bothered....but that is logically ! Both Kellog and Silvesta seem fine, it is just the OH who is affected by the hot weather, he is like a bear with a sore head !!

Don't worry about the temps, because they go high, your stat will shut off all extra heat, so it won't get too hot. Temps are fine, out summer is gonna be a nice little warmer for the snakes, they don't get bothered by temps in the mid 30's, they love it! I had all the windows open yesterday too, the rats were are too hot, they just sprawl out! The cat was ill cos of the heat, the only ones not effected were the snakes, the boas were at near on 40! And still loving it!
Me and Mike discussed this, we came to the conclusion that hotter than normal tempretures wouldnt do the snakes no harm for a short period of time (a week is OK, sure it'd go higher and lower than that in the florida everglades!) and that the snake would probably sit there, if they could, sweat a bit, think its hot but not exactly do anything. |

Posted - 29/06/2010 : 15:33:38 I think they are all trying to get a tan lol.
All mine seem to be acting usual with the temp increase. I however am boiling so they will be in a fanned area weather they like it or not lol |

I have had the same problem........And i have made this on my viv and has worked a treat,!!!
Wish I was as clever as you Hiper, wouldnt know where to start rigging one of those up and the snakes definitely need something in this weather, especially if it is going to get hotter....
Am doing the open windows and close curtains, but I do know that they can cope in the hot weather and am getting them out when I can....so not worried too much....
....just wish I wasnt such a useless DIYer !

Posted - 29/06/2010 : 10:48:55 I have a fan on in my room all day and I leave the cutains pulled to, as I can't leave the window open. I've found that it really keeps the room temps down (and even). |

Posted - 28/06/2010 : 21:18:36 I wouldn't worry too much. Corn snakes come from the southern states of the US such as Mississippi, Arkansas, Alabama, Louisiana, Georgia, Florida, The Carolinas, Tennessee, Kentucky etc. All these States have summer shade temperatures that can rise to over 33- 34C which is the low to mid 90's.
As long as the enclosure is not in direct sunlight and there's some air flow through the room things should be OK. My vivarium has a couple of air vents in it which I make sure are kept clear of decoration (plants, logs etc) |

Posted - 28/06/2010 : 21:14:23 I'm in the same situation. With my windows open, fan on, it's around 28-29C. There isn't any cool breeze to lower the temps, so it's just warm in her tank. |
