Hello guys, we've had our blood red corn for 6 months now, he was a baby when we got him and we were feedin him one pinky every five days, for about 3 months he's been eating two pinkie every five days and he has now shed 4 times.

Im wandering if we shuld start giving him fluffies instead though? he takes both pinkies really fast and doesnt take very long to eat them, there is not really a visible lump from the mice once hes eaten them either. Also once weve given him his mice, he seems to still be in hunting mode, very edgy etc.

We went to a reptile centre that we dont normally use yesterday to ask his advice, he recommended keeping him on wo pinkies, and then two days after giving him them we then feed him another one pinky.

This is the first time ive heard this, and seems strange as it wont allow any time for the snake to be handled.

So before did anything I thought i'd ask the experts!

Any advice guys?

Cheers!

As above, don't go back there, their advice is not based on any good knowledge base, its been made up to sound like they are experienced, and if they do do that, then they should be shot! Try one fuzzy next time he is due to feed, see how he copes, I would imagine it won't be a problem. When you buy your fuzzies, just make sure you are getting small ones, some fuzzies can be quite big!

definately dont take their advice (the shop i mean), snakes arent designed to be constantly digesting food.. get some small fuzzies and try him with one - if he takes it well then give him another 5/6 days later, if he seems to struggle then give him two pinkies next time

I certainly wouldnt go back to that Reptile Centre for advice Lee! To be told to feed your corn and then feed him again 2 days later is crazy advice. I am no expert but even I can work out that it does not give enough time for your corn to digest the meal that he has had - snakes digestive systems aren't made to handle that amount of digestion, and you may well end up with a regurge. I would THINK that feeding on 2 pinkies or on a fuzzie you would want to aim at feeding every 5 to 7 days.

What the others have suggested sounds right. As there is no visible lump after he has eaten the 2 pinkies then he is probably ready to move up to a fuzzie....as long as the width of the fuzzies are not 1.5 times the width of your corn at his widest part. If they are then he needs to stay on 2 pinkies for a little bit longer. Is he putting on weight?

I would wait 5 days from the last time you fed him and then (if you have them and they are the right size) offer him a fuzzie and see what happens....

Hi what i would do is starve it for 7days then feed it a fuzzy.

I'd just try it on a small fuzzy. Feeding it too often will mess with its digestive system as it isn't built to digest quickly. Try it on a small fuzzy the next time it's due for a feed, it sounds like it's ready for a larger prey item if the prey items it's feeding on aren't leaving any noticeable visibility in its stomach.

as reptiledanny said if its no bigger than 1.5 times the girth of the snake, then fuzzies would be fine. sounds like he might be ready if hes still moochin about after being fed.good luck

iv never heard of that method, feeding and then feeding another 2 days later,
when he feeds on 2 pinks does it leave a bump, is he still wandering around. basically if the fuzzy is about 1.5 times the girth of the snake then it is fine
