hello guys!!
Im in need of your wisdom (again)!! Ive just bought a lovely 4x1.5x2 ft vivarium from a friend of mine! i want to know what's the best thing to clean it with? She's used sticky foam pads and sellotape to hold wires+the heat matt in place (tut tut!!) so ive picked as much of these off but am stil left with the tacky residue underneath! A sponge scouring pad is getting of the tack from the pads, but not the sellotape residue - any thoughts?
Also, i have cleaned it all with boiling hot water, and then again with warm water and reptile cleaner - but is there anything else i can use to make sure it's ultra clean?

I agree WD40 is great on sticky stuff,it's fish oil based not mineral so as long as you polish the residue off there shouldn't be any problems. I wouldn't use nail varnish remover as that is solvent based and nasty stuff ! ! ! |

A deep clean I've found works especially well in RUBs, is to close all potential vents (snakes not in the viv of course...) and put some boiling water in a pan in there with some disinfectant in there, so the fumes seep into the wood giving it a good ol' clean.

Wd 40 will get the sticky off, it is a lubricant but, its based on fish oil, not natural oil.
I have used it in the past to get sticky off, and its ok. If you use it, then don't use much.
The viv is going to empty for a while so the propellant will evaporate off in no time.
Cleaning wise, you don't need to go mad, the stuff you used is plenty good enough to make sure it is more than clean and safe enough for your snake. |

I wouldn't use bleach on the wood as it can seep into the wood and can be a bugger to rid off the scent, so I'd use lots of reptile safe disinfectant, F10 or cascade, and wipe that down with a blue dishcloth or green spounge and give it a good scrub as you rinse it.

nail varnish remover will do it but give it a good wipe over and airing after,if you worried about damaging the wood,try a small area on the back/side first |

cheers danny! was wanting to use bleech, but didnt want to risk anything - but il rinse it off a good few times! Nail varnish remover shouldnt damage the wood should it? Anyone use it?? Heard furniture polish can be quite good but am again worried about using anything harmful! Altho, there prob wont b a snake in it for a few months yet! |

you could clean it the a bleach solution, 10% bleach to 90% water, for the sticky, i think people use nail polish remover, i used it on my platic faun and it ruined it but don't know what it is like with wood? |
