Hi all, im new to the forum and to the world of snakes. I have a quick question though. when placing the thermostat sensor is it best to place it inside the hide of the hot end or outside the hide? the only reason im asking is because i guess if it was outside i would not get an accurate reading as it would hotter in the hide?

Think I may have answered my own question but any advice would be great, cheers.

Thanks kellog, it seems to have all balanced out now ans Sindy is regularly visiting both ends to regulate.

Have replied to this where you mentioned it in another thread Bernie, before I realised that you had started your own thread asking the question .

In the other thread LittleMick gave you some good advice and it sounds as though you have got it sorted.

You mention placing the probe inside the hide of the hot end or outside the hide, I personally think it is better to have the probe outside of the hide as if it is inside it may be affected by a cool snake lying on it. This was recently discussed in this thread - http://www.thecornsnake.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=10271

Am glad Sindy seems to be settling in so well , just what we like to hear.

Thanks, I have placed both together under the substrate where the hide is and I'm keeping a good temp of between 28-29.5c. Sindy seems to be enjoying it and is regularly using both ends.

Thanks for reply.

Technically is sshould get just as hot inside the rub as it would outside as the heatmats are contact heaters so would heat the substrate under the warm end the same temps really.

I tend to have my thermostat probes under the substrate in contact with the bottom of my rubs.
