i used to keep an iguana and it was always stressed that they required the right amount of vitmin d3 (converting vitamin d to d3 from u.v light). i was just wondering if metabolic bone disease can be a problem for snakes? i know corn snakes dont require u.v. but has this disease ever occured?

It happens most of all in Lizards defo never heard it from snakes as Mike said snakes get calcium from the bones of food,Lizards have to be suplemented with calcium because they are omnivours and eat worm crickets and fruit which are not rich in calcium.
Not all Lizards need UV so have to suplement other ways with dusting food

Thats pretty much right, snakes get their calcium from the bones of their prey, lizards who tend to eat more insects can suffer from MBD, due to not getting the calcium they need from their prey.

Yeah they do mr taylor. It's more a lizard thing, as the amount of nutrients they get in insects is poor so thats why they at more than one (duh ), so will need their food dusted regularly with calcium supplements.

At least I think thats why

I don't know of any cases wherre metabolic bone disease can cause problems for snakes.

As far as I'm aware snakes can't develop the disease but I might be wrong.
