Posted - 08/06/2010 : 09:41:53 Hi guys!
i am still waiting on a thermostat to arrive through the post and have been constantly switching the heat mat on and off in the viv. I was told to leave it off until the stat arrived as it was very warm at the time, but now the temp has dropped below 20c.
My crisis is.....that i have left the mat on this morning and i wont arrive back in until 5.30 this afternoon....will he be ok until then?
Just so you guys know....he aint shy at all and usually puts himself high above the floor on a branch or raps himself up round a log, but when he first arrived he did settle under the mat on the first day.
My stat should arrive today, so finally....will he be ok?? eeek!

Posted - 08/06/2010 : 10:54:06 Our thermostat arrived broken the day before we got Ruby and I was totally freaking out as well, but what we did was put the viv on a chair next to the radiator, keeping one end of the viv about two inches away. We set up the viv as normal, with a hide and a thermometer (on the substrate surface) at each end; Worked like a charm. We had quite warm weather that week, but we just switched all the other radiators in the flat off and opened up some windows, didn't even notice the extra heat. Just keep the radiator on low/medium (or whatever it takes to get the viv to the correct temp) and check it frequently. We turned it down from medium to low over night and she seemed happy as a little clam |

Posted - 08/06/2010 : 10:49:46 I think I'd turn it off, best to be cautious. A cooler snake is better than a roasted one!! |
