Just thinking,

I'm painting onto mdf for a viv and I was wondering if a couple of coats of a hard wearing enamel varnish mean I don't have to use yacht varnish?

I'm going to try B and M on the weekend, looks like they have some for about £8. Their website isn't that descriptive though it just says 'varnish' £7.99 but in the picture it has one with yacht varnish on. Other than that its B and Q at £15

Not sure how enamal paint would take to wood, as its normally for non porous materials.

It wont be waterproof though if you leave it bare, so will probably get stained when they toilet on it lol.

Sorry enamel paint not varnish :p I think I'll just leave the MDF bare as opposed to painting it. I can't be bothered with the hassle :p

Guess it depends if the paint breaks away when it has contact with water or not.

Enamal varnish or paint?

I would think so, just needs to be waterproof so probably.
Id just leave it to air out for a long time to make sure there are no fumes etc.
